Host
Q: What types of groups use your center?
A: St. Francis Retreat is open to churches, religious, civic, educational, therapeutic and other non-profit organizations. We take pride in serving a wide variety of faith denominations, in an ecumenical spirit. Many healing and recovery groups find our place especially conducive to their work.

Q: What geographic area do you serve?
A: We are located in the rural county of San Benito, in northern California, just south of the Bay Area -- less than 2 hours from San Francisco, only 45 minutes south of San Jose, 20 minutes from either Salinas or Gilroy, or 45 minutes to Monterey Bay/Carmel area. We are convenient also to the communities of the Central Valley, from Stockton to Fresno.
The closest large airport is San Jose International. A rental car from the airport is the best way to here from there. For directions, click "Map" in the menu above.

Q: What size groups can you accomodate?
A: Our set-up allows for a great deal of flexibility in regard to group size. For overnight stays, we have 140 beds and 68 rooms, mostly semi-private with bath. All bed and bath linens are provided by us. Our conference rooms vary in size to hold groups of up to 150, 75, 60, 25 and 10. We also have small group break-out areas for each conference space.

Q: What about the food?
A: It's good! We serve quality "ranch-style" food in buffet-line set-up. Each group is served individually, with separate dining rooms for each group provided. With advance planning, our food service people are able to work with group leaders for special dietary needs.

Q: Are there other special features of your place?
A: The main building of our center was built in the 1860's. The building still maintains many of its early classic features. It presently houses the administrative offices, the kitchen and main dining facilities. The rural country-side surroundings provide a peaceful sense of calm and serenity. there is a four-acre lake on the property. this area seems to be a special sanctuary for numbers of birds and other wildlife. We do have an outdoor basketball court and volleyball court on the grounds.

Q: What do I do to sign up my group?
A:If this is your first time here at St. Francis we have a few needs and a few suggestions. Our retreat co-ordinator will be able to fill you in on more of the details. Please call us; we would welcome the opportunity to speak with you further. We do suggest, if at all possible, that you make an on-site visit to make sure this is the right place for your needs.

Q: What about costs?
A: Our basic rate for 1997-1998 is $60 per night, per person, double occupancy. Our basic day-use rate for conference room and lunch is $24 per person. Discounts for extended night stays can be arranged.

Q: What about A/V equipment and set-ups?
A: We have the following available for group use at no additional charge: TV/VCR in each conference room, overhead projector, chalkboard, easels (group will provide its own pads) and a microphone system and piano in the chapel. Ordinarily, there is no extra fee for room set-up.

Q: How much in advance do I have to sign up?
A: Each retreat program varies in how large a group we take. Some programs fill up quickly. Early registration is always advised. But last minute notice is worth the call to see if openings still exist. In most cases, we have found we prefer a smaller, more intimate number. Check the specific program for details

Q: Do I have to be catholic?
A: No. Our programs are open and sensitive to all people of faith. Our retreats are presented in the context of the Catholic/Christian tradition.

Q: What do I have to bring?
A: Unless otherwise directed, all you need to bring is you -- a friend would be nice also! We provide all bedding, towels, etc. The food is good and plentiful. The weather is usually mild but depends on the time of the year.

Q: Are private rooms available?
A: Ordinarily our rooms are offered on a double-occupancy basis. for some special retreats, private rooms are normative. For most retreats some rooms are designated available for private use. A few of the retreats are double-use only. there is an additional fee of $15 per night for a private room, if available. Check with the Retreat Co-ordinator for further details.

Q: Are scholarships available?
A: In the case of special need, we do have a limited scholarship fund available. Contact Retreat Co-ordinator for details.
